Arts in Fairfax County
The Future of the Arts in Fairfax County project is a result of a
commission study presented to the Board of Supervisors in July 2008. The
focuses of the report include:
- Looking into a venue (existing or proposed) that could support performances done by Fairfax-based arts groups;
- Creating a data base with all of the Fairfax based performing and visual arts organizations; and
- Establishing a public arts program in Fairfax County.
Two subcommittees comprised of public and private partners have been established to address the recommendations made by the commission.

Fairfax County Restoration
Project
The Fairfax County Restoration Project is a public private partnership
dedicated to fostering relationships between state, county, business and
non-profit organizations for the purpose of finding ways we can work
together to improve our environment and quality of life. Plans are
underway:
- For an environmental restoration project at Shrevewood, a Fairfax County Public School located in the Falls Church area. This schoolyard greening project will demonstrate the importance of coordination between various organizations, public and private, to help us address the enormous task of restoring the county's watersheds.
- For an outreach program to developers. We are promoting voluntary participation to rescue plants in areas slated for development by providing volunteers to rescue, relocate and foster plants for implanting in pre-determined areas at a later time.
- Developing a privately-hosted website designed to connect people with the tremendous efforts being made towards the greening of Fairfax County, both by county agencies and non-profits. The website will provide a central place to list environmental information, projects, and a calendar that will provide an interactive one-stop-shop for volunteer opportunities available at a glance.
- For a pilot program at the Murraygate Computer Learning Center Partnership (CLCP) which is operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Virginia and is funded through Fairfax County Community and Recreation Services. Children at these centers have access to computers for researching sustainable gardening and can plan their own garden with the help of volunteer experts. Urban gardening is a way to raise community awareness of sustainability issues.
Fairfax Cares is a coalition of community partners organized to
strengthen the basic needs "safety net" system for the people of
Fairfax County and Falls Church.
The national economic downturn has brought increased unemployment,
decreases in wages, and an overall gap between average incomes and costs
of daily living for citizens living in Fairfax County and Fall Church.
Consequently, area non-profit organizations, faith-based communities,
governments and schools face a growing demand for help.
Fairfax Cares was established to raise awareness and funds to help meet
basic needs such as food and rent, over and above what the other
community organizations can provide.
The Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnerships is assisting
Fairfax Cares, providing marketing and technical expertise, supporting
the Fairfax Cares Advisory Council, and doing community outreach.

The office is convening the formation of a network to connect the rungs to build the Ladder of Success towards Financial Stability. The goal of the network is to harness the energy of shared interest in strengthening the connections and sharing resources between the CBOs, financial institutions, and government agencies including schools.
