Final Draft Report on Sportsplex Available For Public Review
In the fall of 2007, the Fairfax County Park Authority retained two consulting firms, Public Financial Management and Brailsford and Dunlavey, to evaluate program and financial aspects of a proposal to develop portions of the former Lorton Prison for a Sportsplex. The Park Authority also retained the consulting firms EDAW, Inc, and Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. to plan and design the physical layout of the facilities and provide construction cost estimates. The consultants' work was guided by a team including representatives of the County Attorney's Office; Department of Management and Budget, Community Recreation Services, Planning and Zoning; Public Schools; the Fairfax County Athletic Council; and the Park Authority. The Park Authority Board is currently seeking public comment on the report. To that end, a 30-day review and comment period will continue until July 31, 2008. You may view the report online or view the hard copy report in the Public Information Office on the ninth floor of the Herrity Building located at 12055 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA. You can forward comments electronically to Parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov or send written comments to Kirk Holley, Department of Planning and Development, Fairfax County Park Authority, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 406, Fairfax, VA 22035.
