Roots and Shoots

Cub Run RECenter is hosting another Roots and Shoots event on Saturday, Nov. 15th from 10am-12pm. This FREE program will focus on Recycling and Saving Energy. We will have an art contest with prizes and each participant will receive a free canvas grocery/tote bag donated by Walmart. All ages are welcome. Invasive Plant Removal

Join our IMA (Invasive Management Area) volunteer site leaders in removing invasive vines and learn about the problems they cause at Huntley Meadows Park from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Then explore the wetlands and woods for fall wildlife activity. Participants must be 15 years and older, unless accompanied by an adult. This workday is free to attend. Call 703-324-8681.

Family Fun: Worm Workshop

Here’s a family-friendly way to help the environment! Explore the wonderful world of worms in the indoor compost bin at Green Spring Gardens. Then make your own worm bin with newspaper bedding, food scraps and real live wiggly worms to take home! The cost is $20 per project. Call 703-642-5173.

Birding for Beginners

Observe the transition of our bird community as the summer breeding population moves south and winter residents arrive. A park naturalist helps you sharpen your bird identification skills at Huntley Meadows Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Meet in the parking lot. Reservations required. The cost is $2 per adult. Just Jumper Horse Show Series

Watch local residents compete for a blue ribbon in a variety of jumping classes at Frying Pan Farm Park beginning at 9 a.m. Show held indoors rain or shine. Spectators admitted free. Call 703-437-9101.

Native American Theme

Travel back to a time when Native Americans populated this country. Explore self-guided displays and hands-on activities for families working together at Huntley Meadows Visitor Center from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $4 per child. Call 703-768-2525.
