June 18, 2008: Congressmen Davis and Moran recently penned a letter of transmittal to Keith E. Eastin, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Environment, delivering the Proposed Development Plan for the GSA Warehouse Site. Read the letter here. The plan can be reviewed at my office.

March 3, 2008: The Virginia Department of Transportation has approved construction access plans for both the Environmental Proving Grounds (EPG) and the new DeWitt Army Hospital on Fort Belvoir in Springfield, VA. Hospital access is northbound off of Route 1 and Belvoir Road, just outside of Fort Belvoir’s Pence Gate. Improvements to the EPG will be made in phases. The intersection of Barta Road and Backlick Road will have turn lanes and a signal by late Spring, improving traffic patterns. There will be an access entrance through the Central Motors property recently acquired by VDOT. This will be the main entrance for trucks coming onto the EPG. Planning for the longer term is proceeding in coordination with the design of the two sites. Any impacts to traffic patterns will be regularly announced. February 21, 2008: The Fort Belvoir BRAC Board of Advisors met on Thursday, February 21, 2008, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club. Issues for discussion included an update on the site study for locating the 6,200 jobs under BRAC Recommendation 133, transportation issues and review of construction progress for the new hospital on South Post and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency building at the Engineer Proving Ground. Dewitt Army Hospital on Fort Belvoir in Springfield. Hospital

January 30, 2008: Fort Belvoir has announced its next Public Information Meeting, to be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 starting at 6:30 p.m., at Forestdale Elementary School (6530 Elder Avenue, Springfield, VA 22150). January 5, 2008: Congressmen Davis and Moran recently penned a letter to Mr. Jim Nussle, Director of the United States Office of Management and Budget, with regard to funding 13 transportation projects identified as necessary to mitigate the significant adverse impacts of the BRAC implementation at Fort Belvoir. January 4, 2008: The Army announced today that that it has completed review of proposals from Northern Virginia developers to provide a site for location of 6,200 jobs being realigned to Fort Belvoir.
Officials said the Army is notifying the firms whose proposals were found qualified according to criteria announced Oct. 4 in a “Request for Expressions of Interest,” or REFI.
Proposals submitted by the selected developers will be evaluated by the Army, officials said, to determine which offers the best value to the government. That site will then be compared to the federally owned GSA site in Springfield in terms of relative value in meeting the BRAC 133 requirements.
The Army is currently in the process of developing a comprehensive analysis of the GSA site for this purpose, and expects to complete this process in June 2008.
