Childhood Immunizations
It takes several visits to a child’s physician or to a health clinic for a child to receive all the doses necessary to protect against many preventative diseases.
Vaccinations are available through your child’s physician and at the Fairfax County Health Department
Clinics.

Birth to 6 Years Old
Birth to 6 Years
Old Immunizations may begin shortly after birth. The recommended
immunizations are given during your child’s healthcare visits at 2, 4,
6, 12 and 15 months. The primary series should be complete by the time
your child is 2 years old. Additional immunizations, called “boosters,”
are due after your child turns 4 years old. Immunization Schedule
Preschool and School Age
If a child has
not already received the necessary boosters required to enroll in
kindergarten, now is the time to complete the requirements. Required
immunizations before starting school include: 4 - 6 years old: MMR,
DTaP, IPV, Varicella . Immunization Schedule
Preteens
11 to 12
Year Old
Immunizations required for students entering 6th grade:
Tdap, HepB and, for females, HPV.

Teenagers
13 to 18 Years
Old
Immunizations, including boosters, are recommended for older children.
